In Home Newborn Photos Boston | Jill Mac Photography

This adoring family just welcomed home their sweet baby, and I captured in-home newborn photos at their beautiful, loving Boston home.

It’s almost a misnomer to call it a newborn photoshoot. While I focus on capturing every sweet detail of your tiny baby, I also encourage Moms and Dads to step in front of the camera as well. The awe you feel each time you rock your baby in your arms is a feeling unlike any other. Those moments carry a great deal of significance, and the pure joy you feel is seen through every image captured. Allowing you to bottle up the quintessential range of emotions felt in those early days with your baby.

However, as a mom myself, I know all too well that after the birthing experience, you may not exactly feel photo-ready, which is understandable. There are plenty of ways we can make sure that your comfort is a top priority during your newborn photoshoot. Giving you full permission to enjoy the session in a way that feels right to you and your baby.

Your home is the place where all the magic happens. The late-night wake-ups, the families that usher through the door once they’ve received the ok to visit, and the moments you hold your baby tenderly as you rock them to sleep, sweetly humming lullabies.

For those reasons, and so many more, capturing in-home newborn photos creates enchanting, emotion-driven images. There’s no stress about arriving at a studio on time or making sure the diaper bag is packed with all the essentials. You can stop and feed or change your baby as needed, enjoying a photoshoot at a pace that works for you.

Moreover, there’s no pressure to dress up (unless of course, you want to) or to head out of doors before you’re ready. It’s your time together, as a family, to wind down from the birthing experience and soak it all in.

Preparing Your Home

Those are just some of the advantages of capturing in-home newborn photos over taking your baby to a studio (although I offer studio photography as well).  However, one common concern I often hear from the parents I work with is whether or not their home is ‘photo-ready’.

Typically, I recommend thinking about the room or space in your home with the largest number of windows. This will allow us to open up the blinds and let golden natural light wash over your images. Many families choose the nursery, the main bedroom, or both.

While I do recommend that a basic ‘declutter’ happens in the room of your choosing ahead of in-home newborn photos, I would never expect new parents to deep clean. Focusing on specific corners of your chosen room, such as the bed, changing table, or rocking chair, will allow us the space needed to create memorable photos of your sweet newborn. This removes the stress of having to dust, clean floors, or power organize.
