Thinking about booking an in-home newborn session and want to know how to prepare your home for a Newborn Photography Session?
Welcoming a newborn into your family is such a special time, and capturing those first moments at home makes for the most heartfelt and intimate photos. If you’ve booked an in-home newborn session with me, I want to make the process as relaxed and seamless as possible. One of the easiest ways to prepare is by focusing on just one or two rooms in your home.
Choosing the Right Rooms
When selecting spaces for your session, I recommend choosing rooms with large windows that allow plenty of natural light to pour in. Rooms that are free of dark shade-screens, far from surrounding walls, and not blocked by thick shrubbery will give us the soft, dreamy light that works beautifully for newborn photography.
The best rooms to consider are usually:
- The Nursery — a meaningful space that’s been lovingly prepared for your little one.
- The Master Bedroom — perfect for cozy, snuggly family shots on the bed.
- The Living Room — often spacious with great natural light, ideal for capturing relaxed family moments.
Uncluttering and Styling the Space
You don’t need to do a deep clean! The goal is to create simple, calm spaces that keep the focus on your family and your baby.
Here are a few quick tips:
- Declutter surfaces like nightstands, dressers, and coffee tables by tucking away extra items such as water bottles, phone chargers, and stray toys.
- Open all curtains and shades before I arrive to let in as much light as possible.
- Neutral bedding or throws can help create a soft, timeless look. Light colors like whites, creams, and pastels work best.
What if You Don’t Get Everything Hidden?
Please don’t stress! If there’s still a bit of clutter, I’m more than happy to move things around as needed. You might see me shifting the diaper genie, bottles, or diaper balms out of the frame—it’s all part of the process! My goal is to create beautiful, peaceful images that highlight your family’s love without any unnecessary distractions in the background.
Final Thoughts
By focusing on just one or two well-lit rooms and keeping things simple, we’ll create a calm, cozy environment perfect for capturing those precious early days. If you have any questions about preparing your home for your session, feel free to reach out. I can’t wait to capture these sweet moments with you and your little one!
